Little Wolf – The Best Wilderness Resort In Canada 2025

The serene sound of the river flowing, birds chirping, and the views of majestic snow-capped mountains.

This is what a part of your experience will be like when you stay at the world’s first natural timber frame red and yellow cedar wood castle on earth – Little Wolf. Founded by Philip von der Burg, the luxury resort is like a dream come true for all guests. The place is a giant log structure—among the world’s finest and most exceptional wooden buildings, making it the perfect getaway for curious travelers.

Little Wolf Resort combines luxurious elegance and pure natural beauty in the heart of British Columbia’s Rainforest. The overall beauty of the resort is enhanced by the surrounding river system, Sacred Headwaters, one of the world’s most renowned ones, comprising the Stikine, Nass, and Skeena Rivers.

Luxury in the Lap of Nature

Located on a secluded, private peninsula, the Little Wolf Resort is ideal for high-end travelers who like authentic places surrounded by nature. Not only is it perfect due to its extraordinary, luxurious accommodation in the lap of nature, but it is also the best to explore the Great Bear Rainforest and witness a rich biodiversity of life. The design of the castle preserves the characteristics as well as the natural beauty of the place for generations to come.

So, if you are someone who loves wildlife, you will be enchanted by the trails of wild animals that run along the riverbanks. The widespread pebble banks, isolated bays on natural sand beaches, and captivated riffles will only add to the wonderful experience.

The remarkable entrance, formed out of twisted logs and burls, will leave you awestruck. And let us warn you, it will only be the beginning. Imagine waking up to the scenic beauty of the deep rainforest, a misty river valley, and the feeling of tranquility.

The Unique, Incredible Architecture

The Little Wolf Resort is made of giant Western Red Cedar logs that demonstrate beauty and character. Each tree contributing to the formation is a rare jewel of the forest, meticulously harvested and selected. The figured wood and the wood grain used for the main house’s design are very special and add to the resort’s unique architecture.

Philip explains, “Each part of the building features characteristic Giant Red Cedar posts, a Giant Red Cedar burl, as well as ornamental Yellow Cedar burl king posts in the dormer gables and Yellow Bamboo Cedar roof rafters. A breezeway with a giant port cochere consisting of several characteristic burl posts and an eagle head carving in the gable leads to the guesthouse. The guesthouse features solid log walls, a blend of flared ends, a wooden deck, and a balcony system out of Red Cedar, as well as a unique forked king post with a real-looking wooden eagle carving on top.”

The Little Wolf Experience

Little Wolf Resort is the place for people seeking a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of cities. The period of their stay is not just about relaxation in the rainforest; it is about the renewal of life and indulgence with nature. Guests get an opportunity to see the rare White Spirit Bear as well as connect with the indigenous tourism culture.

Explore one of the cultural jewels of north-western British Columbia, the Kitselas Canyon, one of Canada’s National Historic Sites, with stunning long houses and totem poles. A jet boat ride through the canyon can give an idea of how dangerous it used to be for the great paddle-wheelers to make their way through.

Finally, the long-awaited moment—following the traces of the renowned painter Emily Carr, visitors can discover totem poles in Kitwanga and Gitsegukla. What’s more, at the famous Nisga’a Museum in Greenville, they can admire one of the finest collections of north-western aboriginal art. To top it off, guests can visit the historic native village of Ksan, where they will get the chance to meet indigenous people, leading tours through the traditional longhouses of the village.

This isn’t it. People can also visit Gitwinksihlkw and witness the four-century-old suspension bridge and the historic fishwheel. This marvelous tour involves picturesque views of volcanic lava beds, churning waterfalls, crystal clear blue rivers, turquoise volcanic lakes, and drowned forests. It leads through the beautiful Nass River Valley, finally to the remote harbor of Gingolx.

Little Wolf’s Eccentric Fishing Program

Being located in a place that includes the Skeena River, not going fishing is out of the question for guests. In fact, fishing is a part of the experience that Little Wolf Resort provides—it offers the most mind-blowing opportunities to fish for the wildest, biggest Steelhead-Trout and all five species of Pacific Salmon on the planet.

Through its extensive wilderness adventure tour program, the resort provides guided fishing activities, in collaboration with experienced professionals, which include the best fishing guides from all the rivers surrounding the area. Visitors can perform these tours by helicopter, jet-boat, and drift-boats according to their preference. In addition to this, the resort also offers ocean-fishing tours on the Pacific Ocean, in front of Kitimat and Prince Rupert.

One-of-a-Kind Wilderness Retreat

The architecture, the experience, the location, and the amenities—all contribute to the resort’s peculiarity. For the same reason, the Little Wolf Resort has been presented on TV channels, including the National Geographic Channel, the History Channel, ViaSat, Sky, and the Discovery Channel. Furthermore, it has also made it to several magazines and newspapers in over 150 countries.

“The resort is an ideal, central location, as well as an attraction for world-travelers with high demands, to enjoy nature at its finest, and relax in unique, supreme luxury, where wilderness and luxury live in perfect harmony! Little Wolf Resort features beautifully appointed guest suites, alongside exceptional, extraordinary, internationally presented cuisine, a fusion of multicultural and indigenous culinary influences, as well as the opportunity to enjoy world-class salmon and steelhead fishing, on world-famous locations, and a vast selection of outstanding wilderness adventure activities,” says Philip.

Besides, the long list of awards and recognition the resort has received further establishes it among the most astonishing luxury resorts in the world. Consequently, in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, the resort received the Best Business in Canada award (This is the world’s second-largest country we are talking about.)

In addition, the resort is also a multiple award winner of the Prestige Awards, being recognized as Hotel of the Year in Canada 2021, Hotel of the Year in Canada 2022, and Hotel of the Year in Canada 2023!
