Agility made customizable – Infosysta

Customization as a solution has given rise to a different segment in the SaaS industry. It has paved a way to incorporate heuristics into the system that maximizes flexibility and therefore enables a more dynamic system that aims at constant improvement. Infosysta has been serving their clients to do just that for the last eight years.

Feras El Hajjar, the founder and chairman at Infosysta, a software engineer, speaker at Agile Summits and Edmond Tehini, the CEO of Infosysta, spoke to us about their journey as entrepreneurs with Infosysta.

Why was the company set up? How did you select the vertical and decide to be a part of the global platform?

Infosysta was set up in 2012 focusing on Agile Transformation for collaboration between teams. We endeavor to create fully agile environments with our clients whilst adopting a “How to do more with less” approach. Our adventure started in Beirut with the Atlassian partnership, but we very quickly expanded beyond our native borders.

How successful was your first project to roll on? Share the experience.

Our first project was with a leading Telecom group in KSA, and over 8 years down the road they are still one of our flagship clients. The project started on a limited scope but very rapidly the client extended the coverage to anchor Infosysta as a strategic partner and not a simple provider. The fundamental challenge we faced was to ramp-up our resources quickly without compromising on quality, we had the chance to have access to very qualified resources in Lebanon, most of which are still working at Infosysta.

What were the grounds on which you have expanded your company and its offerings over the years?

Our axis of development has been both geographical and cross industries. In 2013 we signed a partnership with one of the leading software providers in the Capital Markets industry hence allowing us to provide quality experts to handle such large and complex projects. After several success stories, implementing Agile Transformation in organizations ranging from government services all the way to banks, we decided to move our HQ to Dubai and use the UAE as a gateway to EMEA and fulfill our growth ambitions. Today we count offices in the UAE, Beirut, Riyadh, Cairo and London and are continuously looking at ways of expansion.

What is your company’s vision statement? And to what extent are you successful in achieving the same?

First and foremost, we consider our clients as partners and our approach is to work hand in hand to allow them to adopt an Agile Transformation of their business processes.

As mentioned above we are firm believers of the “How to do more with less” approach. We have been very successful in achieving this as our own DNA is agile, by nature we work as distributed teams and consider this philosophy a way of life.

What challenges did you face in your initial years? What can your peers learn from it?

The main challenges were to keep focused and not to lose sight of our primary goal. During initial years the most trivial tasks / processes can quickly become hurdles, the challenge is to remain true and nimble whilst surrounding ourselves with equally focused peers.

One advice would be to iron out each issue one by one whilst aiming big and never compromising on quality.

Two-way communication is the key. Employees need to feel they have an outlet for sharing their observations and ideas, is this true with your company?

Absolutely. Infosysta is an open-door company, the management is very involved in the daily life of the company and equally with the wellbeing of the employees. Everyone is free to speak his mind and decisions are usually made based on consensus.

The focus on purpose. How well do your employees know their role in contributing to the team’s and company’s success? Every employee from management down needs to be flexible enough to fill in anyone’s shoes should the need arise. Although we have a well-defined roles and responsibility matrix everyone contributes to the company’s success by stepping out of his comfort zone when needed, here again we come back to our Agile DNA.

What do you feel are the reasons behind your consistent growth as an organization?

Infosysta has nearly grown 300% YoY, one of the main reasons for such success is being client driven. We are constantly in touch with the needs of our clients and we partner with them to address their challenges through cutting edge solutions and second to none quality and professionalism. Our world is ever changing and Infosysta is proud to be a nimble company able to adapt to a fast- changing environment.

For companies that are eyeing Agile transformation, what are some prerequisites for the transition?

Agile transformation is more than a word, it’s a mindset that needs to be adopted at each level of the organization. The benefits of such transformations aresubstantial but need to be conceptualized and well defined, each team involved needs to be empowered and accountable.

What are some challenges that they must acknowledge and prepare to fight?

As mentioned above the buy in must be at each level of the organization from management to terrain. This approach is not a sequential but rather a multi stream approach each actor needs to take ownership and feel part of the larger program.

What are some important business lessons that COVID has taught you?

Change is inevitable! In less than 03 month our whole way of doing things dramatically changed, and having a lean structure allowed Infosysta not only to strive but to continue to grow in these difficult times. Change is a mindset that each and every employee needs to have

Do you have any new products ready to be/getting ready to be rolled out into the market?

Absolutely we are already stepping in Education and Learning systems and have a very promising pipeline we are executing on. We strongly believe education platforms underwent drastic change and will continue to change with the new reality we live in.
