Since its launch, Perfect Corp. has continued to push barriers and challenge themselves to create more enhanced, interactive user experiences and seamless enterprise solutions to help drive business for their brand partners.
Chang says, “We quickly introduced creative ways for brands to use advanced beauty tech to enhance and customize their e-commerce experience. This includes functionality for the integration of on-demand beauty consultations on a brand website through the Beauty Advisor one-on-one service, Web AR live streaming so brands can incorporate regular branded content on their website, and internal interactive training platforms like A.R.T.”
“Perfect Corp. is realizing a unique vision at the intersection of tech and beauty.”
Innovation is sometimes like diving head first in the deep end of the pool. “The concept of virtual makeup try-on was first seen as a selfie-editing tool for consumers to dial up their photos, and not recognized for its utility and benefit across the consumer beauty-shopping journey or its ability to drive sales,” says Chang.
Opening up about the initial challenges Chang faced, she reports, “Brands were initially skeptical if this technology had real world application to help drive business. In order to help prove the impact of beauty tech, we ran many POCs and brand partner testing, which continued to prove these global solutions helped boost business metrics and customer satisfaction. The impact and accuracy of our YouCam digital try-on technologies quickly turned skeptics — both consumers and brands — into believers and now brand partners.”
Chang’s confidence trickles down throughout the entire organization. She continues to challenge her team and motivates every single person to strive for greatness and propel the team forward. “We keep a pulse on evolving consumer behaviors and quickly pivot to meet their changing needs and demands, like the recent demand for touchless, contactless experiences through voice or gesture controls.”
The pandemic may have completely changed how we visualize shopping forever. Safe, contactless hygiene practices are necessary today and in Chang’s opinion, an area that will open up new avenues to leverage AI and AR.
“Combining the power of AR and AI technologies has allowed us to unlock a new realm of experiential digital try-on, personalizing the consumer shopping experience for the individual instead of the masses. This breakthrough achievement combined the accuracy of hyper-realistic virtual AR effects, with the customization and personalization that is made possible with machine learning and AI. Furthermore, it renders a customized–and now contactless–shopping experience which is precisely what the discerning modern day consumer is searching for today.”
Innovation requires a level of adaptability with an innate willingness to learn. Chang’s leadership and vision has created this environment for employees. “Our forward-thinking outlook, our affinity for attempting what others won’t, and our swift adaptation to improve and adjust. We work fast and efficiently and are not afraid to pivot whenever needed to adjust with the shifts in consumer and industry demands.”
Talking about her focus and her product pipelines, Chang says that Skin Tech is their top priority. They intend to explore customized skin regimens by monitoring skin health and providing tailored solutions. “With advancements in AI technologies and mobile camera lens tech, we are just breaking the surface of how technology can be used to benefit the consumer skin health journey.”
They are also reimagining the digital try-on experience through touchless mechanisms using gesture and voice-activated digital try-on controls and virtual lipstick swatching on the arm to help with virtual color try-ons while wearing a mask.
Chang is confident that AI will bring the next big upgrade to the consumer digital journey. “Advancements in AI innovation make personalized recommendations possible and will be the key for next gen virtual try-on experiences both online and offline.”
Prior to diving into beauty tech, Chang worked in the financial sector in banking. It was with the introduction of the Internet in the early 90’s that Chang was struck by curiosity and the myriad of possibilities that existed in the online realm. It was then that she jumped headfirst into the IT industry and led Cyberlink as CEO to help advance technology for the enjoyment of people. Two decades later, in June 2015, Perfect Corp. was born out of Chang vision to apply AR and facial recognition technologies to build upon the consumer beauty shopping experience.
