Recently, Tesla released the report for Electric Vehicle (EV) deliveries in the Q1. Surprisingly, the number was less than the previous quarter given the supply chain disruption and China plant being shut down.
The CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk conveyed his thoughts on the Q1 result through a tweet, “This was an *exceptionally* difficult quarter due to supply chain interruptions & China zero Covid policy.”
Tesla deliveries in Q1
The report showcased that Tesla has delivered 310,048 EVs in the quarter, which was a slight increase and grown by 68% from last year. However, the expected number of deliveries was 308,836 cars, as estimated by Wall Street.
Tesla manufactured 305,407 in this quarter during January to March, which was 305,840 in the previous quarter.
The automaker has sold a total of 295,324 Model 3 Sedans and Model Y sport utility vehicles. Furthermore, Tesla also delivered 14,724 Model S luxury Sedans and Model X premium SUVs.
COVID affects Tesla sales
Tesla, the biggest EV automaker has boosted sales despite the harsh business climate of COVID and supply chain disruptions. The new factory in Shanghai is expected to drive growth. But the recent surge in COVID cases has forced the city to go under strict China lockdown. The changed COVID policy has temporarily shut down the Tesla manufacturing plant in Shanghai.
On 2nd April, 2022 China has reported 2,129 new cases, which was 1,827 on the previous day. Due to the sudden spike in cases the authorities are separating COVID positive children from their parents to curb the 4th wave.
