In June, Google removed 1,11,493 harmful pieces of content following the new India IT Rules, 2021.

Google’s Monthly Transparency Report

According to the Monthly Transparency Report of Google, most of the removed harmful content fell under the copyright infringement category, with the rest falling under other categories such as trademarks, explicit sexual material, fraud, court orders, and others.

The internet company received 32,717 complaints within the same time frame from citizens of the country about external content on various platforms of Google that they believed to violate their personal or regional legal rights. Numerous classifications can be made of the complaints.

According to Google, some requests might allege the violation of intellectual property rights. In contrast, others might claim that local laws restricting the publication of specific types of material due to things like defamation had been broken.

Google’s Monthly Compliance Report

In its Monthly Compliance Report, Google said that in addition to what their users report, they substantially spend in battling dangerous information online and employing technology to detect and remove it from their platform.

The company added its automatic identification procedures resulting in the removal of 528,846 accounts countrywide. Google invests a lot of money to fight harmful content on internet and uses technology to track it down and remove it from its platform.

Google asserted that some of its products would make use of automatic identification processes to prevent the spread of harmful information, such as child sex abuse material and violent extremist content.

The report mentions the complaints received by Google and the action taken during the specified one-month reporting period. The actions were taken due to automated detection mechanisms used by the SSMI platforms of Google. The period captures information from June 1 to June 30. Google might publish more monthly transparency reports in the upcoming months.
