WHO has reported that there is no evidence of the monkeypox virus has undergone mutation. Also, the senior confirmed that the infectious virus is endemic in the West and Central Africa and has not changed.

The head of smallpox secretariat-part of WHO Emergencies Programme, Rosamund Lewis, shared that the mutations are typically lower in this virus, but genome sequencing of cases will help inform understanding of the current outbreak.
