After noticing the need for a local spray foam insulation company, Reed’s Sprayfoam Insulation was established in 2009. The goal was to offer the customer a free home inspection, where the team evaluates their current insulation and gives them the advice to help make their home healthier and more energy-efficient. “We also wanted to educate the homeowner on the advantages of sprayfoam insulation over traditional insulation. From there, the business took off and has grown steadily every year,” asserts Josh Reed, the General Operations Manager at Reed’s Sprayfoam Insulation.
Josh is a committed professional with a history of working in the family business. While growing up he worked alongside his father who was a self-employed contractor and store owner. Josh has served in all aspects of the family business, from painting in people’s homes to becoming a crew leader, working on the production crew installing spray foam insulation when the company was started, supervising and overseeing jobs, serving as a sales representative, educating and advising on home health and energy-efficient solutions, and now managing the overall operations of the company. Today, he leads the company and is passionate about providing quality employment. He leads by example and is great about finding people’s strengths and placing them in positions throughout the company where they can maximize their potential. He meets every challenge with determination and optimism, and he is excited about the continued growth of the company in the future.
Under his leadership, the company has expanded its services and now offers every type of insulation, including cellulose, traditional fiberglass, and injection foam insulation. Additionally, it also offers waterproofing services, structural repair, and floor coatings. Josh expresses, “What started as a team of 3 people has now grown to a team of over 50 people, and in the spring of 2021, we were able to purchase and move into our new office, which also includes a huge warehouse and training facility.”
Challenges are part and parcel of any business journey. In the previous year, the changes and challenges have been paramount for companies around the world. The three major changes in the industry were supply chain shortages, material price increases, and shortages in the labor force. “These challenges have caused many businesses in our trade to struggle, and some have even been forced to close, leaving the market with high demand and low supply of quality, educated and licensed contractors,” explains Josh. Operating a business in the economically challenged years is not easy but Josh was swift in adapting to the new normal. With the rise in challenges, he quickly recognized the need to make alterations in the company if they have to sustain the crisis.
Josh gathered the leadership team to brainstorm together and came up with a strategy to survive the unprecedented challenges. Reed’s Sprayfoam Insulation team is comprised of skillful individuals from the management team to the production crew, who recognize the need for vision and unity. The team frequently holds meetings and provides positive feedback to the employees to help them grow in their careers. As a leader, Josh has always demonstrated to the team that he will work alongside them and be passionate about seeing the company grow so that each of them can prosper.
Reed’s Sprayfoam Insulation’s team believes that by equally dedicating their efforts they can all succeed together. Josh holds pride in having assimilated an ideal team that has dependable people who enjoy their job, respect one another, give 110% every day, have a positive attitude, adapt when change is needed, and unify with common goals. He adds, “We have the most loyal employees anyone could find, and we are thankful because they are the reason we are where we are today.”
In the wake of the pandemic, the team was quick on their feet to help the company steer from the challenges. After brainstorming the strategy, the operations manager was tasked with securing material at the best price possible, so he had to take advantage of the networking relationships built over the years and demand more from its suppliers to increase inventory at every opportunity. The production manager was given the responsibility of hiring more quality laborers and often asking the production crew for more hours and to be more production-minded. The company offered the crew workers percentage-based pay, incentivizing excellence in production and also resulting in fewer call-backs. Meanwhile, the sales manager was in charge of increasing the prices to continue to drive in a profit and the task of communicating this to its new and existing customers.
Every team member contributed their efforts amid the crisis which helped Reed’s Sprayfoam Insulation to rise to the challenge and continually expand. Due to the team’s efforts, the company has positioned itself on top of its competitors and it is serving as a resource for other contracting companies in their trade. “Despite the challenges in the labor force, the supply chain shortages, and price increase for materials, we have seen our business continue to steadily grow, and we are on pace for our best year yet,” said Josh.
As famously quoted, “What doesn’t challenge you doesn’t change you” has proven to be true for Reed’s Sprayfoam Insulation. The company has faced a fair share of challenges but outperformed itself and come through better and stronger. These challenges have been the key to thinking innovatively and taking a different appr
oach. Josh highlights that going through trials and coming out stronger (together) has been some of the most rewarding moments. In spring 2021, when the team opened a new facility there was a stronger sense of unity than ever before. “Employees were proud of the place they worked, and we were proud to be able to provide jobs in an area where work is hard to find,” said Josh.
With an ideal team and distinguishable customer service, Reed’s Home Solutions will continue to grow every year and expand its services while also adding more members to the team. It aims to continually lead the industry in professionalism, knowledge, expertise, and customer service. Josh concludes, “We will always strive for excellence and always remember the journey that has led us to the top.”
