U.S. Cinema stocks raised on Friday given the debut of the sequel of ‘Top Gun’. Cinemark Holdings, Imax Corp, and AMC Entertainment Holdings each gathered more than 6% with the movie release. Also, the analysts are predicting that Paramount films will be ranked amongst the biggest box office hits of the summer.
‘Top Gun’ box office performance
Top Gun: Maverick was originally scheduled to release in 2020. But with the pandemic, alongside other movies, Tom Cruises’ movie also took a hit and was postponed. Several chose the option to release the movies through OTT platforms but Top Gun was put on hold for theatrical release.
Since the release on big screens, the Paramount Global shares have rallied 3.5%. Top Gun has received a 97% rating from the established movie critics while the audience ratings were 99% on the Rotten Tomatoes.
Tom Cruise plays the role of a 59-year-old cocky Navy pilot, whose call sign is Maverick and holds a penchant for bucking authority. A sequel to the 1986 blockbuster, the movie still holds the audience and is declared a hit in cinemas.
Reviving U.S. movie stocks
Around the internet, there are several memes, reviews, and other posts hinting at how the movie has lifted the cinema stocks. AMC stocks raised in 2021 but by far in 2022, the stocks have declined to 51% while Cinemark has gained 6%.
One of the Chief Analyst at BoxOffice Pro, Shawn Robbins, recently estimated that the ticket sales would hit $100 million on Memorial Day weekend in the States and Canada. This will make ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ the highest-grossing debut of the actor’s career.
