Amazon has informed its employees at the U.S. warehouses & logistics sites to be fully vaccinated by March 18 if they wish to receive paid leave due to COVID-19. Also, the company confirmed that the employees, which are fully vaccinated are no longer required to wear a mask.
The retail giant updated its policy considering the recent decline in COVID-19 cases across the states. There is also a surge in vaccination and people are abiding by the safety measures.
Amazon faces scrutiny for safety measures
Amid the COVID-19, Amazon was under scrutiny for its questionable safety measures by the workers. Amazon has around 1.6 million full-time and part-time workforce all around the globe.
Alongside Amazon, its rival retail giant Walmart has also removed the mandatory face-covering rule for the staff members. The no-mask rule is effective immediately unless it is required by a state or local mandate.
Walmart joins Amazon no mask rule
Walmart’s internal memo has added that workers who work in clinical care settings like health clinics and pharmacies, with direct customer contact, will require to wear masks irrespective of the vaccination status.
Walmart also adds that except for the staff in California, New York, and Virginia, there will be no requirement of health screening as of the end of this month.
The two retail giants Amazon and Walmart have allowed the fully vaccinated staff from mandatory mask rules. Although, the companies have specified that this rule will only take effect if the local regulations allow it.
