The Home Ministry has identified that the information of users was transmitted in an unauthorized manner to servers located outside the country. Hence the government has blocked 348 mobile applications that were included in the process.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Minister of State for Electronics and IT, said that the applications are developed by different countries, including China.
Details On The Ban By MeitY
He also said that as per the request from MHA, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) had blocked those 348 mobile applications since such data transmissions infringe the sovereignty, defense, and integrity of India; and the security of the State.
There was no mention of the time when Meity blocked these 348 apps.
Battlegrounds Mobile India, or BGMI, was removed from the government’s order last month from Google Play Store and App Store. The removal happened without warning. However, Google confirmed that it received a government order addressing Google to delist the popular online game.
An Indian government source told Reuters that it later reported that BGMI from the South Korean game development firm Krafton was removed from app stores because of concerns about its data sharing and mining in China. Section 69A of India’s IT Act allows the government to block public access to content in national security, among other reasons.
However, the Skyesports CEO and Founder, Shiva Nandy, has recently mentioned through Instagram that the ban is temporary. Therefore, the game will be back in India soon.
