With the rise in the gaming industry, we have seen the success of PlayStations boost over the years. Though, this was not seen in recent times when the company announced that it sold 2 million PlayStation 5 units in the last quarter, a total of 19.3 million. As compared to last year’s same quarter where it sold 3.3 million units, this was relatively low. However, the company saw a rise in the games sale where it sold 70.5 million PS4/PS5 titles. This was high when compared to last year when it sold 61.4 million which included 14.5 million first-party games compared to 7.9 million in Q3.
This quarter, it’s Game & Network Services (GSN) division earned 665 billion yen ($5.1 billion) which is more than the last year. In 2021, the sales were very low and was just up by 2 as compared to 2020. Similarly, there was a difference in profits.
Expecting A Rise in The Performance
As compared to PS4, the PS5 sales are less with 3.1 million units lesser units sold than the PS4 at a similar point in time. Furthermore, the company knew this would happen as there is a shortage of chips. However, the customer demand is not the issue but the company is unable to build more units due to the same issue.
However, Sony is expecting the scenario would quickly change and there will be a boost in sales. For the next quarter’s sales, the company forecasts a 34 percent increase in sales to 929 billion yen ($7.13 billion). This would be possible because of better parts supply and higher sales of third-party games. Furthermore, the company is planning to launch PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium in June.
