The luxury car manufacturer, Rolls Royce has a record-breaking sale of 49% in 2021. COVID-19 chronicles seemed ineffective for Rolls Royce as the demand surged regardless of the circumstances.

What did the CEO say?

Torsten Müller-Ötvös, the CEO of Rolls Royce stated in an online presentation that the company is equally surprised and happy with the record-breaking sales. They sold 5,586 cars to customers from over 50 countries. This was the biggest sales number in the 117-year history of the luxury car manufacturer, despite the pandemic.

In the luxury sector as a whole, the struggle was not so much focused on attempting to find customers, but rather producing enough product to satisfy huge customer demand,” said Müller-Ötvös.

The record sales were majorly contributed from the China and American market. Due to COVID-19, the biggest global markets like China and U.S. were under travel restrictions which was the reason behind the wealthy customers having more income at their disposal. This contributed to the surged sales for premium and luxury cars.

Plans for 2022

Rolls Royce British Plant in Goodwood is running at its maximum capacity as the order books were full near the third quarter of 2022. “If you order a Rolls-Royce today, you will expect to take delivery of it about a year from now,” said Müller-Ötvös.

The Luxury Car Market

Bentley also reported a global sale surge of 31% resulting in strong demand for the high-end luxury car. BMW has also managed to surge the sales to over 2.2 million cars in 2021, outdoing the sales of 2019 regardless of the global shortage for semiconductors. Müller-Ötvös also hinted towards the chip shortage amid the COVID-19 pandemic, but BMW—parent of Rolls Royce— managed to take delivery of all the chips thus not hindering the manufacturing.
