At a Glance:

  • SAG Nomination was announced over Instagram Live.
  • Squid Game was nominated for Best Television Drama Series.
  • Lady Gaga, Will Smith, and Ben Affleck landed individual nominations for SAG Award.
  • Kotsur becomes the first deaf individual to land a SAG nomination.

For two years in a row, Oscars have struggled to make the buzz. The nominations for 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards were made through an Instagram live. Vanessa Hudgens and Rosario Dawson made the announcements for the SAG nominations.

Though the event was virtual, it did manage to steer up the interest of viewers. Given the rising concerns of COVID-19 and its Omicron variant, yet another award opted for the virtual platform.

Recently, we witnessed the Golden Globes Award being held on ‘Twitter’. The reason being speculated is the boycott of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association due to the ethical and diversity issues. However, the surge in COVID cases also majorly contributed to announcing the results over Twitter.

SAG Award grabs the spotlight

SAG Awards are among the most reliable Oscar forerunners. It is rarely a sight to witness a movie or performance not nominated by the SAG to win an Academy Award. The best performance from TV and film in 2021 will be presented on February 27, 2022, at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. It will also be broadcast live on TNT and TBT.

This year among the nomination list, Kotsur—a first deaf actor—has also landed an individual SAG nomination. The most trending K-drama series ‘Squid Game’ has also landed a nomination at SAG.
